How directly to doctorate study?

Doctorate study manages alines Master's degree and doctorate (6), Entry conditions (8.2) from official material accepted by Senat of University for postgraduate study of Statistics. Doctorate study is managed by all usual definitions of University of Ljubljana, as they come from statue and resolutions of The senat of University. It is also managed by resolutions of Programme council, specially from meeting in april 2004.

Three processes needs to be differentiated:

1. Entry in  3. and 4. year of the study
2. Direct passage to doctorate study
3. Announcment of doctorate theme

ad 1) Entry in  3. and 4. year of the study:

• In the 3. and 4. year of the study can enter candidates who simultaneously finish their obligations. Similarly as for the first and second year of the study, entry in third or fourth year can be a base for cofinancing.
• Candidates  need: 
  • for entry in the third year of the study:
    • at least 60 credit points, 
    • candidate's and mentor's written statement that candidate will continue doctorate study.
  • for  entry in the fourth year of the study:
    • all exams and seminars settled (90 credit points)
    • Master's degree or approved direct passage at accauntable faculty with accordance to doctorate theme.
    • Recommended is also accordance with the theme from the University, because this can be additional condition for cofinancing.
• In the case of unsuccessful doctorate a candidate can transgress to Master's degree where eventual returning of resources (if cofinanced) for the third and fourth year of the study is not expected yet, but it can still be qualified.

ad 2) Direct passage - to doctorate without Master's degree - is managed by candidate at the faculty of module where a student postgraduate studies. Before that - according to decision of 8. meeting of Programme council at 2.4.2004 -  accordance of Programme council is needed. The programme council sends application to suitable faculty. The programme council's oppinion is that this is appropriate only for students who managed all the obligations from first year with above average estimation. The programme council also reccomends fast decision making - right after the first year of postgraduate study.  

ad 3) The theme of Master's degree and disertation: first - according to decision of the 8. meeting of Programme council (2.4.2004) - approves Programme council, than it follows into usual procedure of member which is responsible bearer of module.

Given time for doctorate advocacy is four years from the time when the theme is approved, but before the advocacy the candidate needs to prove avtorship or coavtorship of an article the disertation's area in SCI/SSCI publication (acceptance for publication is sufficient).
